The drawings are adorable while the designations for each letter far different from what I have seen in this type of book before. If the parents of young children are into the Steampunk genre that this is the book for them.

Professor Whiskerton, the peg-legged leader of the mouse duo, presents new concepts for each letter al the while adding the items shown A through Y to add up to Z. This is a very fast read for the adult member of the group, the entire book containing less words total than you have read in this review so far, but it is a very welcome addition to the reading shelf for our granddaughter. Each letter gets a page with one short sentence that uses a word starting with the featured letter. Supposedly these words reflect on the Steampunk genre, yet they have more to do with general construction than this fandom.

Two mice work hard to build the various things represented by the words and by the time they get to Z, they complete their project. Although each element is not visible, they were clearly incorporated. This one Aside from the topic choice, this is just your typical ABC book. This one clever aspect goes a long way to redeem this otherwise straightforward alphabet book. While the words have little to do with Steampunk, the visual aspect does a fair job with its rich colours, gears, and the Victorian clothes the mice wear. Children will surely pick up a book with such a interesting cover and title, yet they may find it a difficult read due to all the uncommon words.

Steampunk and Children

The Bean hasn't cottoned to this one yet, which I think is quite the crime. I love the detailed illustrations in this one, which features a pair of mouse inventors doing generally silly things with Rube Goldberg-esque machines. In other words, steampunk.

I'll keep trying it on him once a week or so until he grows into it because I'm so fond of it. Definitely not the typical ABC book! Jul 05, Heidi rated it it was amazing. Not only are the illustrations fabulous, but so is the invention that everything leads toward. Each letter represents something related to this mysterious invention. The clever hints that are hidden along the way were fun to find and ponder. It was especially clever the way the invention fits right into the alphabet along with everything else.

This is an absolutely gorgeous version of an ABC book. I am not into steampunk and yet I thoroughly enjoyed this book where A is for Anvil and B is for Bolt.

I like books that offer a different set of vocabulary words to children.

These words are not ones you usually find in children's books. On top of that, the illustrations are so rich, vibrant, detailed and colorful.

I think there is a little something for everyone in this book. It is advertised for ages and I think that is perfect. For t This is an absolutely gorgeous version of an ABC book. It is beautifully illustrated and my six year old grandson learned a lot of new words as we followed the ABC's that had words made from things that some people would see as junk Unlike some books that look like a little girl's book, this book would appeal to little boys as well as girls.

I was so glad when it finally loaded as it was on pre-order. This is such a cool book. It's a simple ABC in essence, but every illustration is worthy of framing and placing on your wall.

I was kind of hoping all of the individual pieces represented by the letters of alphabet would all be part of a larger steampunk thing in the final spread, but was disappointed. I was also a little disappointed by the artwork. The back flap says the author sculpted items using hardware to prepare for illustrating this book. I longed for mixed media. As I read through the book, I was dumbfounded by each letter depicting the steampunk look, metal gadgets.

How the author created tools to form a letter but stressing there usefulness. This is a wonderful book to get for your little one, especially learning their ABC's.
